Teaching a novice how to play tennis is just one of the goals of a Tennis Instructor. Mostly, a Tennis Instructor’s objective is to improve a student’s game. To do that, you spend most of your time in this job outdoors, teaching them proper form, techniques, and practices.
You might work as a Tennis Instructor at a tennis club, resort, country club, or even a sporting goods store, and your students might range from small children who are just starting out in the game to seasoned pros who need a little polishing.
Your approach to instruction and the structure of your class time vary depending on the students, but the basics are covered in every session. You start your class with warm-up, go into drills, and work through techniques that specifically apply to each student. You might teach one-on-one, or an entire class of beginners at the same time. Games are a creative way that you get your students interested in improving their performance, and getting a little friendly rivalry going between them is a trick up your sleeve.
While playing full sets of tennis, you coach your students through each move. You teach them the correct way to serve, volley, and hit a backhand. You also perfect their form, their grip, and their stance. You might be hard on your students, putting them through their paces, but it pays off big when they start winning matches.
