What do Stone Graders do?

Inspects, repairs, and grades rough-cut and finished blocks or slabs of stone according to work order specifications: Examines stone block for defects in work and quality, such as cracks, fractures, and scratches. Measures dimensions of block, using tape measure. Cleans fractures and cracks in block with acid and sponge. Fills imperfections with matching colored wax, and polishes patched area, using file, hone, and portable buffer. May select rough blocks from stock for cutting and polishing. May mark code numbers on finished blocks according to work order specifications. May order quarry blocks for cutting and polishing.
