What do Rug Hookers do?

Tufts yarn through backing material to fabricate carpets and rugs, using portable, electric-powered hooking device: Presses trigger of device to start reciprocating action of needle that punches yarn through material to form pile on rug surface. Guides device along stenciled outline on backing material to tuft design in rug according to specifications. Changes yarn color as specified by pattern. May insert missing tufts in rugs. May tuft rugs by hand, using hooked needle, and be designated Rug Hooker, Hand. When tufting samples, is known as Sample Maker.
