Create fantastic jewelry using gemstones and sparkling metals.
Ever wondered how your latest sweet kicks got so sweet? A Pattern Engineer knows the answer, because you created them. Pattern Engineers work with Designers, manufacturers, and marketing people to create the latest in shoe fashion.
The job of a Pattern Engineer is all about innovation and improving how shoes are made. You start when a Designer finishes their latest creation. From their design, you create a sample of how each shoe should look. You keep in mind things like the type of materials needed, and how to keep production costs low and manufacturing fast.
For example, you might love the look of leather for a shoe top, but realize that it will take too long to make and won’t be practical for its purpose. You’re the one who adds a dose of reality to the fanciful designs of the Shoe Designers.
After the sample is made, you talk with the manufacturing department. You give lists of needed materials and tools, and come up with a reasonable timeframe for each shipment. This number is also given to the marketing and sales departments, since it will help when they contact clients.
When not working on a new shoe, you do audits on old shoe manufacturing processes. This means you look for ways to speed up production or lower costs on other shoes, while still keeping the level of quality high.
Expect to stay on your toes with this job. Vendors change, shoes become passé, and suddenly you’re starting all over.
