What do Music Club Managers do?

As a Music Club Manager you make sure that your club is enjoyable, profitable, and can handle whatever a night throws at it. Basically this means that you will be in charge of all the duties the Music Club Owner doesn’t want (which is usually most of them). A few that might land on your Music Club Manager plate could include bookkeeping and accounting, supervising staff, and updating of the website.

Handling this role requires a wide range of abilities, and the range of responsibilities will be every bit as wide. In order to be a successful Music Club Manager, you need to have a solid business sense to fully understand the competition and handling details, such as keeping up with health and fire codes and complying with liquor license regulations. Fantastic people skills are a must because you will be working closely with Music Promoters, Musicians, vendors, distributors, staff, and customers. Ambition and a high energy level will help you be successful, and you also have to be trustworthy (if the bar is successful, you will be dealing with a large volume of cash).

You must also take care of front of the house issues, which means dealing with customers. For this you should be a social butterfly, flitting around the club making sure your patrons are happy and getting what they came for.

On the whole, you are a jack of all trades – booking the best bands around, keeping the bar and/or restaurant well stocked with supplies and fully staffed, keeping the staff well-trained and happy, and being the model of professionalism.

Your friends may all be green with envy. They will try to hide it so they can impress their other friends by getting by the Bouncers, but you’ll know. And you’ll secretly love it.

Should I be a Music Club Manager?

  • Ready for a Challenge: You jump into new projects with initiative and drive.
