As a Human Resources Generalist, you build the strong bonds that hold a company together. From advising Managers in other departments to reviewing current company policies, it’s your job as a Human Resources Generalist to see that human resources goals – typically any agenda that creates happy, skilled, and hard-working employees – are created and met.
Generalist is an excellent term to summarize your duties. Think of your job as a smorgasbord of interesting roles. One day you may focus on employee training and fixing employee complaints, while the next can find you coaching the Managers from different departments on new regulations and how best to follow them. Bonus packages and vacation plans also fall under the Human Resources Generalist’s list of items to review. When problems arise between two employees or departments, you smooth things out.
This is a lot to do, but happy employees produce high-quality work. And your work goes toward putting into place the best training procedures and policies to keep the staff safe and healthy. To accomplish these goals, you’ll spend most of the day reviewing paperwork, advising Managers on potential changes and how they can benefit the company, and collecting data to see which new policies work best.
