Maintain IT systems for a company.
Disease prevention, patient safety, and quality treatment form the basis of any medical facility’s goals. To manage all the patients that come and go everyday, Clinical Informatics Directors design and oversee the information systems that track patient information, schedule medical procedures, and create management plans.
The larger the hospital, the more information there is to lose. The role of a Clinical Informatics Director is both Supervisor and Professional Organizer. Creating efficient ways to manage numerous patients and ensure that the correct medications go to the correct patients is one of the many issues you tackle daily if you’re a Clinical Informatics Director.
To help the hospital or clinic run more smoothly, you note flaws in the current systems and search for solutions. For one hospital, you might design a system from the ground up, while for another, you might just need to modify the current technology.
Much of your time is spent at hospitals, performing evaluations or training staff members on how to use an upgraded system. Systems exist for everything from tracking patient allergies to examining test results. Merging all these parts into one functioning system is your biggest, yet most rewarding, challenge. Succeed as a Clinical Informatics Director and you’ll help the hospital run seamlessly so it can focus on its true goal of saving lives.
