What do Cisco Certified Network Professionals do?

A Cisco Certified Network Professional has taken and passed a rigorous exam that’s offered by Cisco Systems to IT professionals. These professionals have demonstrated the ability to plan, implement, verify, and troubleshoot both local-area networks (LANs) and wide-area networks (WANs). They’ve also proved they can work collaboratively with specialists on advanced security, voice, wireless, and video solutions.

In other words—just as a Police Officer has a badge, a Doctor a medical license, and a Stuntman scars—a network professional has a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification to prove they’re capable of doing their job.

When you’re a Cisco Certified Network Professional, you’re typically a Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Network Security Engineer, or Network Technician who does what any other network professional does: You plan, implement, and maintain the computer networks that companies use to access, protect, and transmit data, encompassing their Internet, email, and telephone services, among other things. This includes configuring network hardware and software, setting up security protocols, and ensuring productivity by addressing issues that affect network speed and stability.

It’s therefore not your duties that are different. It’s your qualifications: You’ve proven to your peers and to your current and future employers that you possess advanced technical skills, knowledge, and expertise in the area of enterprise networking. As a result, you qualify for more jobs at bigger companies that pay higher salaries!
