It is the Alumni Relations Coordinator’s job to make sure that the school’s alumni – students who have graduated from the college – know they may be gone but they’re not forgotten.
The Alumni Relations Coordinator is the brains of the operation in charge of planning out and preparing for reunion events. The school might decide to hold a fundraiser and invite alumni to a day filled with entertaining events and speakers. As Alumni Relations Coordinator, you pick the date, send the invitations, and book the entertainment. You’re a whiz at planning a party and you have a passion for convincing people that donating to the college is a worthy cause. After all, a fundraiser is only as successful as the money it raises.
In between organizing events, you manage the daily paperwork that comes with maintaining positive alumni relations. From mailing out a newsletter about what’s happening at the college to printing off brochures outlining how graduates can earn a Master’s degree, variety is the spice of your job.
In this field, it’s not just the creative aspect or your zeal for organization that brings you into the office every day. It all comes down to the people. Colleges offer an abundance of programs for current students; you ensure graduates realize your college still has something to offer them, too.
