Nail Technician Certification

Nail Technicians work at salons, spas, and resorts, offering manicures and pedicures to customers. If you love to work with people, keep up with fashion trends, and have nail-painting parties with your friends, then pursuing an education in nail technology is for you.

Do I need Nail Technician certification?

Nail Technicians don’t need to be certified. You are, however, required to learn the skills of your trade, and you can do that by earning a Nail Technician certificate from a community college or cosmetology school.

Training

Nail Technician training programs typically take around one semester to complete. During that time, you’ll pick up the skills you need to work with clients. In the classroom, you’ll learn about the structure of nails and the diseases that afflict them. Instructors will teach you about tools, products, and techniques that offer different results.

You’ll also learn about safety and sanitation. Some courses even cover the basics of running a business, in case you’re interested in opening your own shop.

Outside the classroom, you’ll gain plenty of practical experience, commonly through supervised practice on your classmates. This will allow you to become more comfortable working with other people’s hands and feet, get used to applying nail color within the lines, and practice using your tools.

Next Step

Building a client base is the key to a successful career as a Nail Technician. In other words, if you want to become a Manicurist, you want people talking about you. Brush up on your people skills and prepare to use them.

Look for work at an existing salon, or launch out on your own. To get started, use the contacts and resources available through your school.
