Your home away from home isn’t really a home unless you have a nice, peaceful night’s rest in a clean room, followed by a hot shower. Those things require a variety of people to pull together, and overseeing them all is the Hotel Manager. Serving as (not-always-equal parts) boss, coordinator, Mediator, and (at times) parent, the Hotel Manager works a variety of shifts to make sure guests enjoy their stay, and return to keep the hotel in business.
What’s all this effort worth?
Given the supervisory role of the Hotel Manager, also called the General Manager, you may expect a bit more than what is offered. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Hotel Manager salary averages $45,800. But it’s also important to know that the middle 50 percent earned between $34,970 and $62,880, so there’s room to grow within the position. A small number of Hotel Managers earned less than $28,160, but the most experienced earned more than $84,270.
What’s the difference?
Many hotels also incorporate other benefits as part of the Hotel Manager salary. Aside from the traditional benefits such as health insurance and paid time off, some Hotel Managers also receive added benefits like meals, parking, laundry service, and hotel discounts. Also, the location, size, and type of hotel play significant roles in determining the salary.
Can I get a job?
Statistics show that the growth in employment for Hotel Managers is slower than average when compared to other fields. This doesn’t mean you can’t find a job though, but it does mean it may be more competitive. And even though the field is growing slower than others, it’s still expected to increase by at least five percent in the next decade.
